The history of the House of Calvet dates back to 1818, when Jean-Marie Calvet, the founder of the company, settled first in the town of Tain L’Hermitage, where the vineyards owned by his parents were located, and then in the very center of the province of Bordeaux. Jean-Marie Calvet had a deep knowledge of winemaking, and unlike other “negotiants,” he began to produce wines with great enthusiasm, which was a rarity.
Currently, Calvet is a leader in the wine regions of France. So, in Bordeaux, the company works in the most prestigious «appellations». The company has also achieved significant success in the province of Burgundy, where it has about 11 «appellations» from Pommard to Chablis. Maconnais and Beaujolais, where Calvet produces wines in the seven leading and most famous appellations, have not been left without attention. Calvet was the first company in Bordeaux to guarantee the quality of its products. The output of Calvet wines is strictly regulated. The company has its own set of rules and compliance, which ensures the production of only high-quality products. The code contains 40 introductory provisions that must be strictly observed.
Blending and aging wine are carried out only at the company’s location. The wines are aged only in French oak barrels for at least six months. As a rule, the aging process lasts one year, after which the wine is aged in bottles for several months. At the stage of blending and aging, the wine passes a controlled tasting from 7 to 11 times. For several years, the Chief Oenologist of the Calvet House has been the charming Spaniard Paz Espejo, recognized by experts as a great master of her craft. Wines created under her leadership occupy the most prestigious places at international exhibitions and competitions.
