Purcari is the custodian of the traditions of high-quality Moldovan winemaking. The first winery in Purcari was formed by decree of the specific department in 1827, after the annexation of Bessarabia to Russia, and was founded by the German Hermanson. The town of Purcari has become known for its wines from grapes grown here. Two hundred years or more after the monks of the Athos-Zagrafsky monastery planted vineyards on these lands, a scientific rationale for favorable conditions for growing this crop appeared. They are explained by a successful combination of terrain, soil, and climatic conditions. The relief is a high plain due to the proximity of the Dniester River. Heights above sea level predominate – 90-130 meters. The height is optimal for the development of vineyards. The winds blowing from the Black Sea soften the cold in winter and the heat in summer. The soils in this area are mainly loamy chernozems of medium carbonate content, but high carbonate content is also found.
There is a magnificent estate on the territory of Purcari – a classic French-style chateau located in the South-West of Moldova near the Dniester River, 120 km from Chisinau and 30 km from the Black Sea and Odesa. In the Purcari estate, you can get acquainted with the intricacies of making Purcari wines. Visit the Wine Galleries, where «Negru de Purcari» wines are stored under fine threads of noble dust. Visiting the factory, you will see the ancient cellars built in the shape of a cross, where the wine is aged in oak barrels. You will be amazed by the picturesque scenery and the lake with swans.
Purcari produces wines of both European varieties – Chardonnay, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir- and wines from the rarest types of the area – Moldovan grape varieties Rara Neagra and Feteasca Neagra.
Conquering wine lovers, Purcari exports to more than 25 countries. In 2014, Purcari returned to the UK market through the distributor of the British royal house, BBR. We also started cooperation on the only monopoly wine market in Europe, Norway. In 2015, Purcari received a patent confirming the status of the official supplier of the Royal House of Romania.
Since 2003, Purcari wines have won more than 200 awards at various international specialized competitions – Decanter, Challenge International du Vin, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, and International Wine and Spirit Competition.
