American Honey liqueur with an original, mild taste is a blend of pure natural honey with Wild Turkey bourbon. The recipe for this liqueur first appeared in the 1970s at the Wild Turkey Distillery. They were initially known as Wild Turkey Honey Liqueur. I renamed «American Honey» in 2006.
In 2010 American Honey was named «Best in Class» at the World Whiskey Awards.
The famous Wild Turkey Distillery was built by the Ripy brothers in 1869 near Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. In 1893, the family company’s bourbon represented the state of Kentucky at an international exhibition. In 1940, the chief executive of the distillery, Thomas McCarthy, went with friends on an annual hunt for wild turkeys. He took whiskey with him. His friends liked him so much that during the next hunting, they asked him to bring him the same «Wild Turkey» whiskey (“wild turkey” means “wild turkey” in translation). This is how the name of the famous brand of whiskey was born.
Over the next 40 years, the company was sold twice, and on April 8, 2009, the Wild Turkey brand of whiskey and American Honey liquor, along with the distillery, were acquired by Campari.
