Sailor Jerry is a spiced Caribbean rum named after the legendary American tattoo artist Norman Keith Collins («Sailor Jerry»). He is considered the founding father of the so-called «old school» – a style of small-sized tattoos, a simple pattern made with large contours. The nickname «Sailor» by Collins was not taken by chance since, from the age of 19, he served in the Navy, and it was as a sailor, he got acquainted with the art of tattoos in Southeast Asia. After retiring, he started his own business and opened a tattoo parlor in Honolulu. His first clients were sailors, and it was in their environment that Norman Collins’ work initially gained unprecedented popularity. The «Jerry Sailor tattoo» became a brand, style, and symbol of a new stage in American culture’s development, personifying the times’ spirit. And over time, the type of tattoos began to be replicated not only on the bodies of those who wished but also on all kinds of goods. Rum «Sailor Jerry» Spiced is made by traditional distillation of sugar cane juice. But the secret of its creators lies in the precisely adjusted proportion of spices added to bring the taste of rum closer to that which the sailors once tried to get, making this ancient «sea» drink. The finest rums are selected from several Caribbean estates and blended according to our recipes with the addition of natural spices and flavors. As a result, the rum acquires an unusually smooth taste and a bold character, which should be inherent in a strong drink of real «sea wolves». The Sailor Jerry brand is owned by William Grant & sons. Since its inception, the brand has been run by tattoo artists Ed Hardy and Mike Malone, to whom Jerry the Sailor has personally transferred the rights to use his name and his work. In addition to rum, the company produces a line of clothing and souvenirs decorated with sketches that Norman Collins himself once created.
