Ardmore Distillery is a Scottish distillery that produces single malt whisky in the Highland style. It is located in the village of Kennethmont, in the eastern part of the Speyside region, near the border with the Highlands. This is a very picturesque place, surrounded by greenery and mountain ranges.
Ardmore Distillery was founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, the son of the founder of the well-known blended whisky brand Teacher’s Highland Cream. Throughout its history, Ardmore Distillery has changed owners several times. In the early 20th century, it was owned by Johnnie Walker, and in the mid-century, it was acquired by Teachers & Sons. Since 2014, the distillery has been owned by Beam Suntory.
Ardmore Distillery usually uses barley grown on farms near the distillery. This allows them to control the quality of the raw materials and reduce the distance between the fields and the distillery, which helps lower transportation costs.
Ardmore Distillery remains one of the few distilleries in the Highlands specializing in peated whisky, giving its products a unique character among Scottish single malts. However, it is not as smoky as other Scottish whiskies, making it more accessible and enjoyable for a wider range of palates. Ardmore Distillery follows traditional whisky-making methods while also incorporating modern technologies. For example, they age their whisky in sherry and port casks, enhancing its richness and complexity.
