Cynar is a bittersweet liqueur that dates back to 1952. Then, the Venetian entrepreneur Angelo Further Molle launched a liqueur from an unusual plant – the artichoke or «Cynara cardunculus». Being the brand’s «face», the artichoke is not the only ingredient in the liqueur. In fact, it owes its original taste to more than a dozen plants and herbs that make up its secret composition. In the 1960s, «Chinar» was actively promoted by television commercials in which agent 007 gains extraordinary powers after drinking liquor. Since 1995, artichoke bitter has been produced by Campari, positioning itself as an «afternoon bitter». Cynar can be enjoyed as an aperitif, diluting its bitterness with a little ice, soda, cola, or, as Europeans most often do, orange juice. It can be a substitute for Campari in the famous Negroni cocktail.
Campari Group is the world’s most famous producer of wines, spirits, and soft drinks. The firm was founded in 1860 by Gaspard Campari, who invented the recipe for the legendary bitter named after him. After Gaspard’s death, the organization’s management passed to his son, David. The latter contributed considerably to the expansion of production and the development of the popularity of the company’s products. By 1960, the company’s drinks began to be sold in more than 80 different countries of the world, and in the next few decades, the number of countries where Campari products were exported grew to 190.
Today, Campari owns 45 beverage brands. The most famous and favorite brands of consumers are Aperol aperitif, Campari bitter, Cinzano vermouth, Glen Grant whiskey, Mondoro sparkling wine, and Ouzo 12 ouzo. The company is considered the leader in the production of alcohol in Italy and Brazil.
