Bowmore is one of the world’s most famous Islay whiskeys, as it is one of the world’s top ten best-selling scotch whiskeys. The distillery was founded in 1779 in Bowmore. Its feature is strict adherence to the traditions of whiskey production. So, as many as three floors of the plant are designed for drying barley using the old method – barley is scattered on the floor and turned over with wooden shovels, just like two hundred years ago.
Whiskey acquires its original «Ilovskiy» taste during the aging process. The aging facilities are located below sea level and have gone underground over the years. Bowmore whiskey tastes rich, distinguished by marine shades – iodine, algae, sea salt. Peaty aroma is acquired at the stage of malting barley, which is dried with peat. And yet this whiskey is much softer and thinner than other Islay varieties.
In 1963, Stanley Morrison founded Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd, which began promoting Bowmore whiskey in the international market. Today, the distillery produces whiskey of various ages
