Hibiki Whiskey is produced at the Suntory distillery and was released in 1989 to celebrate Suntory’s 90th anniversary. Since then, Hibiki Whiskey has been regarded as the epitome of excellence in the Art of Japanese Whiskey – a genuine product of Japan’s nature and people. Hibiki Whiskey is not only one of the most awarded Japanese blended whiskeys but also one of the world’s most prestigious and revered whiskeys.

Hibiki Whiskey is a harmonious blend of countless malt and grain whiskeys that have been masterfully combined to create a rich symphony of taste and aroma.

In 1923, the founder of Suntory, Shinjiro Torii, set about building a distillery, the first in Japan. The distillery is located near the ancient capital of Japan, Kyoto, where the humid climate and where the Katsura, Knzu, and Uji rivers join, among rolling hills immersed in a haze. The soft Rikyu water distinguishes this area, one of the hundred best spring glasses of water in Japan, and named after the «father of the Japanese tea ceremony, Senno Rikyu».

The area of Yamazaki, surrounded by bamboo forests, is an ideal place for making whiskey due to its mild climate and spring water. Shinjiro Torii considered this area ideal for making Japanese whiskey. Today, the Yamazaki distillery is the epitome of Japanese whiskey itself.

In 1973, in honor of the 50th anniversary of whiskey production in Japan, Suntory built its second distillery in Hakushu, which is located 700 meters above sea level, in the heart of the mountains, at the foot of Mount Kai Komagatake, in a humid and cool climate. Suntory chose Hakushu as its second distillery due to the region’s unique environment and water quality. The excellent, clean, and soft water of the Ohira River, flowing among the majestic mountains, is one of the hundred best spring glasses of water in Japan and is optimal for whiskey production.
