«Appleton Estate» Signature Blend is a «mixed» premium rum. Until 2015 it was called «Estate V / X». The blend is a combination of 15 rums of different styles and ages, which, after mixing, were aged for about four years. The «estate distilled» mark on the rum label indicates that it was made in the same place where sugar cane is grown and processed.
The first mention of rum production on the Appleton Estate dates back to 1749, but the estate itself appears in documents from 1655. Just then, the English captured Jamaica from the Spaniards, and one Francis Dickinson, who participated in this conquest, received the estate as a reward. In the middle of the 19th century, the estate changed owners several times until it was acquired by one of the most successful merchants in Jamaica – A. MacDowell Nathan, who died due to a strong earthquake at the beginning of the 20th century. The estate was purchased by J. Wray & Nephew Ltd.
The Appleton Estate farm is on fertile land in the center of Jamaica, in the Nassau Valley. Nassau’s fertile soil, afternoon rainfall, and abundant sunshine provide optimal conditions for growing sugar cane. Appleton Estate employees respect the region’s rich 265-year-old rum-making tradition. Every step is carefully controlled, from the selection of sugar cane varieties that are grown on the farm itself, to blending. In addition to sugarcane, the unique distillation process uses natural yeast cultures and crystal clear spring water collected on the estate. All Appleton Estate rums have a unique style, complex taste, and beautiful aroma. The rums are produced on a single estate in a small area, making them one of the few rums in the world to qualify for classification by the terroir and geographic name.
In 2012 J. Wray & Nephew Ltd and thus the Appleton Estate brand were acquired by the Campari group.
