The success story of a family with deep roots in winemaking goes back over 200 years. With the experience and knowledge of a family involved in winemaking for over 200 years, Hilar Schmitt founded Schmitt Söhne in 1919 as a small local winery specializing in producing the highest quality wines at affordable prices. He would never have believed that his heirs would expand the company in the coming years and become one of the largest exporters of German wine in the world.
In 1984, the fourth generation joined the company and Thomas Schmitt took over as Managing Director with his own ideas and vision for the future. It was under his leadership that Schmitt Söhne focused on wine exports and grew into the dominant company it is today. From a small local winery to a leader in German wine exports, Schmitt Söhne has always looked to the future, seeking ways to improve and grow while maintaining high levels of quality and customer service.
